Luminary is a digital-first bank providing financial services for international businesses. Core features include multi-currency accounts, seamless cross-border payments, and integrated fiat and crypto solutions. All delivered through a modern mobile experience.

UI/UX design process
How did we start?
We started with a detailed discovery phase to fully understand the product, its users, and its technical legacy. This included auditing the existing native applications, mapping out key business banking flows, and identifying UX pain points.
At the same time, we translated Luminary’s "Northern Lights" brand concept into a scalable design system. Through soft gradients, subtle depth, and fluid motion, we crafted a calm, premium banking experience that feels consistent across every screen and interaction.

Multiple iterations of design concept
Luminary is a highly product-driven company with a strong internal design background, which made early collaboration especially important. This iterative approach allowed us to align closely with the client’s vision while refining details that supported usability and brand consistency.
Improved customer onboarding
A significant part of the design effort was dedicated to improving the registration flow for both individual users and companies. We redesigned the flow to feel smoother and more guided. It was achieved by breaking down complex steps into manageable actions and clearly communicating progress throughout the process.

We focused on creating flexible layouts, reusable components, and scalable patterns that could support future features without redesigning core flows. By establishing clear hierarchy, consistent patterns, and reusable components, we ensured the UI could scale as new financial products and services were introduced.
Development process
Single cross-platform codebase
Flutter enabled us to replace two separate native applications with one shared codebase. This ensured feature parity across iOS and Android while reducing long-term maintenance costs.
Consistent UI and performance
Using Flutter allowed us to deliver a visually consistent interface with smooth animations and predictable behaviour on both platforms. This was especially important for financial interactions where reliability and clarity are critical.
Scalable and future-ready architecture
The app was built with modularity and scalability in mind, allowing new features to be added without major refactoring. This approach supports rapid product growth and future platform expansion.
Features
Reliable local and international payments
The app supports fast and secure transfers, enabling businesses to move funds across borders with confidence. Payment flows were designed to be clear and predictable, reducing friction while maintaining transparency at every step.
Card vaults for Fiat and Crypto
Users can securely store and manage both fiat and crypto cards within dedicated vaults. This approach enhances security while giving users full visibility and control over their payment instruments.
Fiat & Crypto exchange
The app allows users to exchange between fiat and cryptocurrencies directly within the platform. Exchange flows were designed to be intuitive, clearly presenting rates, fees, and confirmations before execution.
2FA action confirmation with Authenticator apps
The app initially relied on email-based two-factor authentication for sensitive actions. We introduced an additional 2FA method using external authenticator apps, giving users a more secure and reliable way to confirm critical operations.
Lounges & eSIMs
Luminary users gain access to additional lifestyle services, including airport lounge access and eSIM purchase. These features extend the app beyond banking, offering more value for internationally operating businesses and frequent travellers.
Crypto Loans and Staking
Users can request crypto-backed loans and stake supported digital assets directly from the app. Rolled out in November 2025, these features were built for speed and clarity, requiring just a few simple taps.
Results
Delivered in under 6 months. Chili Labs completely reimagined Luminary Business, bridging fiat and crypto into a unified, modern banking experience built to dominate the FinTech market.
